LAWRENCEVILLE -- No charges have been filed in Friday morning collision that killed a 50-year-old Lawrenceville woman, police said Monday. An investigation continues.
The 9 a.m. accident at the intersection of Ga. Highway 20 and Hurricane Shoals Road killed Kim Nguyen at the scene. A preliminary investigation has shown no criminal activity was associated with her death, police said.
Nguyen was the passenger in a 1999 Toyota Avalon driven south on the highway by her husband, Phuoc Thach, 51. Investigators believe Thach turned left on Hurricane Shoals Road into the path of a northbound Freightliner truck driven by Lucio Lopez, 38, of Lawrenceville.
"After striking Thach's vehicle, the truck then struck another vehicle and damaged a traffic signal controller before coming to rest in a gas station parking lot," said Lawrenceville police Capt. Greg Vaughn.
A total of four people were transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with minor injuries.
The accident caused major traffic delays Friday morning, due to the disruption of traffic signals by the collision and a time-consuming investigation, Vaughn said.
