LSU linebacker Kevin Minter, a Peachtree Ridge grad, was named the SEC's co-defensive player of the week Monday after a record-breaking effort last Saturday in a 14-6 loss to Florida.
Minter made 20 tackles, including a school-record 17 solo stops, and had two sacks and forced a fumble to lead the Tigers' defense. His tackle total was the most by an LSU player since 1988 and the second-most in school history behind a 21-tackle game in 1982.
"I thought Kevin Minter played his butt off," LSU head coach Les Miles told The Times-Picayune. "He gave us great leadership."
The 6-foot-2, 245-pound middle linebacker leads the Tigers with 54 tackles (8.5 for losses) and also has two sacks. He is the second straight Gwinnett product to be named the SEC defensive player of the week, joining Ole Miss linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche, a Grayson grad who shared the league's honor last week.
