SHILOH GENERALS (8-AAAAAA)
Coach: Troy Hobbs
Record: 3-2, 0-2 region
Last week: Lost to Grayson 45-27
ARCHER TIGERS (8-AAAAAA)
Coach: Andy Dyer
Record: 3-2, 1-2 region
Last week: Beat Dacula 17-14
Each team has two early losses in region play and is in need of a win Friday to stay in postseason contention.
And each defense will be facing somewhat of a different look from the opposing offense when they get together at Archer Community Stadium tonight.
After seeing the high-powered spread attack of South Gwinnett and the pounding running game of Grayson in the past two weeks, the Generals will have to deal with a very balanced Archer offense.
While the Tigers rely a lot on the running of Sean Fowler, they’ve had to throw more with Ernest Alexander out much of the last two games, and quarterback Gabe Tiller and the aerial game has come through.
Meanwhile, Archer got a taste of a multi-look offense against Dacula last week after facing more run-dominated attacks of Brookwood and Parkview the previous two times out.
Still, Shiloh’s spread set, led by quarterback DeVante James and receiver Cam Stewart, could be a bit of an adjustment for a Tigers defense that has been pretty solid throughout the season.
The early moments may be crucial in this one, and Shiloh coach Troy Hobbs knows his team must get out of the gate quicker, as the Generals have been slow starters even in their wins.
“We’ve talked about that,” Hobbs said. “A lot of that has to do with nerves, and it happens. … I don’t want to say we’re a second-half team. We want to play four quarters. That’s something we’ve got to work on.”
Last meeting: Archer won 35-0 last year
