SUWANEE -- Need an excuse to get off the couch this Saturday? Lucky for you Amigos for Christ hosts is annual Celebrate Service Music Festival at Suwanee Town Center Park to get you on your feet -- and it's for a good cause.
From 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., there will be several ways to help the nonprofit raise additional funds for its programs. Some of the activities include a 5K run, a family fun bike race, a cupcake challenge, Frisbee and soccer tournaments, and a cornhole competition.
For those who want to relax, music will be playing all day with The Lovin' Spoonful headlining the concert. The 1960s group takes stage at 7:30 p.m. performing its hits "Do You Believe in Magic," "Daydream" and "Summer in the City."
"Rarely does one have the opportunity to so easily put into action what they believe," said Sabrina Bland of Amigos for Christ. "We believe in Amigos that everyone, regardless of where they are from, deserves the opportunity to serve, to better their life and that of their families, and to become responsible and passionate people in their communities, and their countries. We support the chance to grow, to become a beacon to others and to have fun while you do this.
"We hope that people all over Atlanta and Gwinnett especially come to celebrate the joy of being alive."
Admission is free. Proceeds raised from the additional activities benefit the nonprofit's mission to "serve God by providing opportunities for missionaries and impoverished families to grow through life-changing experiences," like installing water pipes for fresh, clean drinking water in Nicaragua.
