SUWANEE -- Gov. Nathan Deal recently reappointed Richard L. Tucker Sr. to the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia for his eighth year.
A longtime Gwinnett County resident, Tucker is the past president/CEO and chairman of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. He serves on the Gwinnett Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Gwinnett Medical Foundation, the Community Foundation of Northeast Georgia and the Georgia Gwinnett College Board of Trustees.
Tucker said he enjoys serving on the 18-member board, because he has "a strong affection for higher education and its importance. I serve with distinguished Georgians who are dedicated to post-secondary education."
The board oversees the 35 colleges and universities that comprise the University System of Georgia, Skidaway Institute of Oceanography and The Georgia Public Library System. These institutions enroll about 318,000 students and employ about 41,680 faculty and staff members to provide teaching and related services to students and the communities in which they are located.
