PREP ROUNDUP: Hill, Jones lead Peachtree Ridge over North in 7-AAAAAA title series

SUWANEE -- Quinn Hill threw a complete game in the circle and Kayla Jones blasted a two-run home run as Peachtree Ridge took the lead in its best-of-three series with North Gwinnett in the Region 7-AAAAAA championship series with a 4-3 win Wednesday night at North.

Hill (13-2) allowed just three earned runs and struck out eight, while Sam Pierannunzi was 1-for-2 with two stolen bases as the Lions (22-3) moved to within a win of the region title, which they can secure with a win in Game 2 this afternoon.

North (18-6-2) got three hits, including a solo homer, by Alaina Hall, while Kendall McKinney had a hit and an RBI, Mallory Krepke, and Kinsley Jennings each had a hit and Ashley Stephan drove in a run.

Hannah Harrison took the loss despite scattering six hits and four earned runs with 13 strikeouts over seven innings. She also had two hits at the plate.

The Bulldogs need to win Game 2 Thursday to force a third and deciding game to be played immediately after.


Duluth takes two at region

SUWANEE -- Jeanie Perrucci had two wins in the circle as Duluth (16-9) scored a pair of wins in the bracket portion of the Region 7-AAAAAA tournament Wednesday at Collins Hill.

Perrucci (16-9) first threw a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts as the Wildcats beat Norcross 5-0.

Cassie Kooker was 2-for-2, Kayla Brown was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Jessica Brown went 1-for-3 with a triple in the opener.

The Wildcats then followed up by beating Mountain View 5-4 behind another complete-game effort form Perrucci, who also went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Kooker, Reina Sycamore and Toni Perrucci all went 1-for-3, with Sycamore driving in a pair of runs, while Lauren Blanco was 2-for-3.

Duluth awaits the Collins Hill/Mill Creek loser for an elimination game Thursday at 6 p.m.

Brookwood 4, Archer 3

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Ansley Jones was 2-for-3 and drove in two runs as Brookwood moved into the championship round of the Region 8-AAAAAA tournament with a 4-3 win over Archer on Wednesday at Archer.

Megan Litumbe was 2-for-3, Taiylor Rinehart had a double and an RBI, Daniella Ulloa and Mandy Blackwell each had a hit and Baylei Banfield scored a run to lead the Broncos (21-10), who await the Archer/Grayson winner with two chances to get one win Thursday for the region title.

Amanda Ablan scattered eight hits and three earned runs and struck out two to get the complete-game win and added a hit at the plate.

Nani Cabrales (15-3) gave up eight hits and four runs with four strikeouts in the circle for Archer (24-6), while Alesha Mann was 3-for-4 with two doubles, a homer and two RBIs and Andria Booth was 2-for-3 for the Tigers.

Buford 4, Dawson Co. 1

GAINESVILLE -- Bria Bush tossed her 13th complete game of the season, while Drew Puckett was 2-for-2 with a three-run homer as Buford (23-2) moved into the championship round of the Region 7-AAA tournament with a 4-1 win over Dawson County on Wednesday at East Hall High School.

Bush (14-2) yielded just four hits and an earned run and struck out 10 in going the distance for the Wolves, while Puckett's homer capped a four-run fourth inning that proved decisive.

Jordan Deep was 1-for-3 with a double, Remington Hasty went 1-for-3 and Tessa Daniels was 1-for-3 with an RBI for Buford, which awaits the Dawson County/Fannin County winner Thursday at 6 p.m. at Buford.

Wesleyan 14, GAC 1, 4 innings

ATLANTA -- Victoria DiStasi was 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs as Wesleyan downed GAC 14-1 in a Region 6-AA elimination game Wednesday at Lovett.

Katie Frerking went 1-for-1 with two RBIs, while CaraMia Tsirigos was 1-for-2 with a triple and three RBIs and Dacia Jones (10-1) gave up just one hit and one unearned run with four strikeouts over four innings as the Wolves (22-7) advanced to play Lovett in an elimination game Thursday at 5 p.m. The winner advances to meet Westminster in the championship round.

GAC will be the fourth seed from the region in the Class AA state playoffs.

Providence Christian 9, Towns Co. 3

HIAWASSEE -- Brittany Tuttle 3-for-5 and drove in two runs while Katy Barry went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two stolen bases as Providence downed Towns County 9-3 in its regular season finale Wednesday at Towns County.

Amber Roberts and Allison James were each 2-for-4 with an double and an RBI to aid the pitching of MacKenzie Tuttle, who threw a complete game for the Storm (6-18-2), who will be the No. 5 seed at the Region 8-A tournament, which they begin Thursday against Commerce.
