DULUTH -- Calling all four-legged friends: The city of Duluth and the Historic Strickland House come together to host the fourth annual Chattapoochee Pet Fest at the Chattapoochee Dog Park on Sunday, which allows well-behaved dogs and cats to join the party.

During the day, there will be pet vendors ready to talk animals, pet rescue groups with information how to help the cause, crafts and food for sell, animal adoptions, the Gwinnett Humane Society and live music.

The two highlights include the annual pet costume contest with prizes for the top dogs and a special appearance by Mayor Shiner, the mayor of the dog park. The black and white canine was elected to his current position on April 28.

The festival's proceeds benefit the Historic Strickland House of Duluth, which was home to the original Gwinnett Humane Society.

The Strickland House was built in 1898 and is the home of the first woman mayor of Duluth, Alice Strickland. The building displays artifacts, exhibits and pictures while telling the history of the city.
