Snellville couple accused of $1.4M in fraudulent Medicaid

LAWRENCEVILLE -- A Snellville couple has been indicted for allegedly defrauding the Medicaid system of more than $1.4 million via their physical therapy and daycare businesses.

Olufemi and Oluyemisi Afuape were indicted this week by a Gwinnett County grand jury on felony charges of Medicaid fraud and conspiracy to defraud state or political subdivision. If convicted they could serve up to 10 years in prison.

According to the local documents and information released by the Office of the Attorney General of Georgia, the couple -- which already owned and operated Zion Rehab physical therapy center -- opened a daycare called "Give Mom a Break" in 2007. The drew a large clientele by reportedly offering free child care.

"Once the children were enrolled in the day care business," the indictment said, "the accused submitted claims to the Georgia Medicaid program for speech therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy purportedly provided to the children by Zion Rehab."

That therapy, authorities said, never happened. The services were never rendered.

Between Dec. 8, 2008, and Oct. 25, 2010, Oluyemisi Afuape, a licensed physical therapist accepted just under $670,000 in Medicaid payments on behalf "Give Mom a Break," officials said.

The couple had filed fraudulent claims through Zion Rehab at least two years prior to that as well, the Attorney General's Office alleges. All told, the Afuapes received a total of $1,407,325.50 in Medicaid payments.

They only say there is oversight.... Never, ever done to the level it should be and I believe incidents like this should enrage folks it never seems to. Glad to see it bothers you as much as it does me.

I posted this story on Thursday, but many of the liberal posters just bury their heads. Their solution is typical: more money from the evil wealthy - these are poor people.

We only hear about fraud when it gets to this magnitude, but we never are alerted to the 1000's of cases that happen regularly. Reality is that "Minority" status gets you money with little oversight. The government doesn't want to be called out for denying minorities, all while screwing the taxpayers and keeping entitlement fraud alive and kicking.

Forcing the wealthy to pay their "fair share" is much more important than revealing the massive fraud and entitlement junkies that plague our government.
