SUWANEE -- The cause of a double fatal wrong-way wreck in Suwanee on Wednesday night is still under investigation, but Suwanee Police have identified the people who died.
David Dowdy, 47, of Bogart was driving a red Pontiac, while Jean Strickland, 79, of Suwanee, was a passenger in a silver Mercedes when the vehicles collided in the eastbound lane at the intersection of McGinnis Ferry and Scales roads, Suwanee Police Capt. Clyde Byers said. Officers arrived at the scene about 6 p.m. and traffic was detoured for several hours after the incident.
"The cause is still under investigation, but it appears that one of the vehicles veered over the center line into the oncoming traffic," Byers said.
Byers said police could not yet determine if alcohol or drugs were involved, pending lab results. Byers also could not yet estimate the speeds of the vehicles in the wreck.
