GAB: Santa's Toy Run is this week

BRASELTON -- The fifth annual Santa's Toy Run is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday at Road Atlanta. The three-day, eight hour endurance race raises money and toys to benefit local foster children.

Admission for all three days is a new, unwrapped toy or gift card. In 2011, the event provided more than 500 children with toys for Christmas, many of whom would have not received any gifts.

The event received national recognition from the National Independent Auto Dealers Association and was awarded a National Community Service Award.

Local college offers free seminar

DULUTH -- Shorter University Professor E.J. Bondoc will present a free seminar using the Myer's Briggs Type Indicator to help participants understand the secrets of their own personalities and better understand those around them.

"Participants will become more aware of their natural strengths," Bondoc said. "In addition,they will be able to understand why they don't always see eye-to-eye with others on certain matters."

The seminar is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 8 at Shorter University's Gwinnett Campus, 3805 Crestwood Parkway, Suite 500, Duluth.

Five Forks library holds reopening celebration

LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Five Forks branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library is hosting a reopening celebration for the community from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday.

The celebration will feature crafts for children, music, courtesy of the Gwinnett School of Music and demonstrations of several high-tech services that were part of the facility's efficiency upgrade.

"The Five Forks project has given us the opportunity to increase efficiency through new technologies that will not only create a more cost effective building to operate but also a better experience for the customer," said Library Executive Director Nancy Stanbery-Kellam.

TechStudio offers library customers access to professional quality software for image and video editing, design and media creation. Software such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop will be available to the public.

Laurel Grove welcomes seniors for holidays

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Laurel Grove, an independent senior living community in Lawrenceville, has scheduled a free event for seniors to help celebrate the holiday season.

Christmas Card Crafting is scheduled for 10 a.m. Dec. 7. "Come create a holiday card for someone who is unable to experience this holiday's cheer." Hot chocolate and peppermint brownies will be provided.

A pet food and blanket donation drive is scheduled for 2 p.m. Dec. 8. The organization will accept food and blankets, which will be given to the local Humane Society.

Let's Talk Seniors is a transitioning seminar to help seniors transition "to a better lifestyle." Light refreshments will be served.
