GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd is the Atlantic Coast Conference's overall and offensive player of the year, and Florida State defensive end Bjoern Werner is the league's top defensive player.
The league released its players of the year Wednesday.
Boyd won both of his awards by one vote over North Carolina running back Gio Bernard. Boyd received 20 of a possible 46 votes from members of the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association while Bernard had 19. Boyd had 22 votes for the offensive award to Bernard's 21.
Werner had 27 votes for the defensive award and teammate Tank Carradine had nine.
Boyd averaged nearly 337 total yards per game and led the league with a pass-efficiency rating of 168.5 with a school-record 34 touchdown passes while operating the league's top offense.
It marks the eighth time the player of the year award went to a Tiger and first since C.J. Spiller won it in 2009.
Bernard averaged league bests of 122.8 yards rushing, 11.4 points, 16.4 yards per punt return and 198.1 all-purpose yards despite missing two early season games with a knee injury.
Werner is the league's career active leader with 23.5 sacks and matched a career-high with 3.5 sacks in last week's loss to Florida. He became the sixth Florida State player to win the defensive award and first since Darnell Docket in 2003.
