ATLANTA — The Atlanta Police Department is preparing to welcome 29 new officers.
A graduation ceremony is set for Tuesday evening for 26 men and three women who have completed 22 weeks of training at the Atlanta Police Academy and field training with veteran officers.
The training includes classroom courses in constitutional law, local and state laws, department policy and procedure, defensive tactics, arrest techniques and daily physical fitness.
Fourteen new members of the Citizens Police Academy are also set to graduate Tuesday. The Citizens Police Academy educates Atlanta residents on the department's operations while also getting feedback from them to enhance police and community relations. It involves 30 hours of instruction.
