KENNESAW -- Devin Mitchell scored 20 points and Darius Joell added 18 as the Collins Hill boys defeated Langston Hughes 62-50 on Saturday at the On the Radar Hoops Classic at North Cobb Christian.
Both also added three assists and the Eagles (2-2) gave a balanced effort. Eight players scored, including Johncarlos Reyes, who had six points, six rebounds and seven steals.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Archer 71, St. Francis 63
KENNESAW -- Randall Smith scored 21 points as undefeated Archer beat St. Francis 71-63 on Saturday at the On the Radar Hoops Classic at North Cobb Christian.
Bryan Hamlet (16 points) and Kelvin Nwanze (13) were also in double digits for the Tigers (3-0).
Westlake 83, Buford 70
KENNESAW -- Buford put four players in double figures, but fell to Westlake 83-70 on Saturday in its season opener at the On the Radar Hoops Classic at North Cobb Christian.
Isaiah Williams led the way with 20 points. A.J. Davis added 18, Kyle Doyle had 15 and Brad Mapes scored 12 for the Wolves (0-1).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Mt. View 65, Northview 32
JEFFERSON -- Mountain View closed out a perfect run at the Tabo's Tipoff Tournament in Jefferson, winning the championship game 65-32 against Northview on Saturday.
The Bears (4-0) had 11 of their 13 players score, led by Jordan Stallworth's 17 points and 13 rebounds. Anyesa Williams scored nine in the final and was named tournament MVP, while D'andra Pringle made the all-tournament team.
Meadowcreek 58, Tri-Cities 51
DALTON -- Meadowcreek picked up its first win of the season on Saturday, beating Tri-Cities 58-51 at Hoopfest in Dalton.
Courtney Fields led the Mustangs (1-3) with 18 points and eight steals. Ashley Okoku added 14 points, two steals and a rebound.
Angel Alexander put up 10 points, six rebounds and seven steals, while Kourtney Hill kicked in another 13 points.
WRESTLING
GAC goes 2-3 at Archer tourney
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Greater Atlanta Christian had an up-and-down day at Archer's tournament Saturday, winning twice and dropping three other matches.
The Spartans (6-4) thumped Harris County 64-9 and beat Milton 46-27. They lost to Rockdale County (49-28), South Forsyth (42-29) and Kell (36-34).
Trent Scates (138 pounds), Joey Schrader (145) and Hunter Martin (195) were all 4-1 with four pins on the day. Kyle Politz (120) and Carter Klinebell (132) were both 3-1. Klinebell won twice on pins.
Archer wins another tourney
LAWRENCEVILLE — The Archer wrestling team completed the Thanksgiving break today by winning its third tournament in one week at the Takedown Sportswear Duals. The Tigers went 5-0 and defeated Kell 72-6, South Forsyth 76-0, Mill Creek 81-0, Rockdale County 67-10 and Bob Jones (Ala.) 72-12.
Undefeated wrestlers for the Tigers were Vinny Artigues, DaQuan Olbert, Grany Aycox, Chris Diaz, Daniel Bullard, Thomas Bullard, Zach Wright, Robby Kwarteng, Elliot Lee and Ernest Alexander. The team is now 14-0 and headed to South Carolina this weekend for the Southern Slam Invitational.
