DULUTH -- What would Christmas be like without tradition?
Cities like Duluth hold events to usher in the holidays. On Dec. 1, the city will celebrate its 30th annual Lighting of the Tree at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Duluth.
But the event kicks off officially at 4 p.m. with a city hall open house; craft activities, games and food on the Town Green at 5 p.m.; caroling by Duluth High School Chorus in the lobby of city hall; and the tree lighting ceremony, followed by the arrival of Santa with real reindeer.
Caroling will be provided by B.B. Harris Elementary and Duluth High School Chorus.
Many of Duluth's downtown vendors will be decorating their store windows and have extended shopping hours for holiday gifts and refreshments.
To end the holiday season, the city is also hosting a New Year's Eve in Downtown Duluth on Dec. 31.
