DACULA -- A portion of Ga. Highway 316 was closed in Dacula Friday, as firefighters battled a brush fire.
A caller alerted firefighters to a small, three-quarters of an acre blaze alongside the highway, but by the time crews arrived five minutes later, they discovered two large areas on fire totalling about two acres, said Gwinnett Fire spokesman Colin Rhoden.
It took an hour for six engine crews, with the help of a water tender truck and Georgia Forestry officials, to get the blaze under control. Rhoden said the westbound lanes were closed due to firefighting tactics and fire involvement.
No injuries were reported.
