LAWRENCEVILLE -- A program at Gwinnett Technical College that recognizes outstanding students and honors excellence in academics and leadership has its most recent selection.

Kimberly Horn, a business administrative student, is the winner of Gwinnett Tech's 2013 Georgia Occupational Award of Leadership.

Originally from Lawrenceville, Horn was nominated by Sue VanLanen, business administrative technology program director.

"As a student, Kimberly is very conscientious and meticulous. As a person, she is always positive and encourages those around her to aspire to higher goals."

A recognized campus leader, Horn is currently a student ambassador, vice president of the GTC Student Leadership Council and president of the campus Toastmasters Club. She was the 2012 Outstanding Student of the Business Administrative Technology program.

Said Horn: "Little did I realize that when I chose technical education to develop practical competitive job skills that I would gain confidence and realize that I have so much potential."

Warren Bare, a Gwinnett Tech Foundation trustee and GOAL competition judge, said Horn is "an outstanding example of the best of technical education. She has a deep understanding of the positive influence of her school on both a personal level and on a larger community and economic basis."

Gwinnett Tech's other finalists were Chris Dilday of Suwanee, Jordan Bollander of Loganville, and Terri Patterson of Lawrenceville.

As Gwinnett Tech's GOAL winner, Horn will continue on to the statewide GOAL competition. The state's winner serves as the student ambassador for technical education in Georgia.
