Two Gwinnett County linebackers -- Kevin Minter and Trey Johnson -- have been named finalists for the 28th annual Butkus Award by the Butkus Foundation. The winner of the award, given to the top linebacker at the pro, college and high school levels, will be announced in early December.
Minter, a Peachtree Ridge grad who is LSU's middle linebacker, is one of the college award's five finalists along with Georgia's Jarvis Jones, Oregon's Dion Jordan, Alabama's C.J. Mosley and Notre Dame's Manti Te'o.
Johnson, a Central Gwinnett senior, is up for the high school Butkus honor. The other high school finalists are Reuben Foster of Auburn (Ala.), Peter Kalambayi of Matthews Butler (N.C.), Isaac Savaiinaea of Honolulu Punahou (Hawaii) and Jaylon Smith of Fort Wayne Bishop Luers (Ind.).
