CUMMING -- It took two overtimes, but Duluth finally managed to pull away from North Forsyth for a 69-65 win over the Raiders on Tuesday night in the North Forsyth Titan Classic.
Katie Powell led the Wildcats (2-0) with 26 points, while Joi Jones finished with 12 points. Jones also hit an putback on an offensive rebound at the close of the first overtime to force the second extra period.
Duluth will face Wesleyan tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the tournament finals at North Forsyth High School.
Mountain View 47, Chestatee 31
JEFFERSON -- Mountain View earned a spot in the championship game of the Tabo's Tipoff Tournament at Jefferson High School with a 47-31 win over Chestatee. The Bears (3-0) will play the Heritage-Northview winner on Saturday at 7 p.m. for the tournament crown.
D'andra Pringle led the Bears with 13 points, seven rebounds, five assists and five steals, while Ices Walker added nine points, six boards and six steals. Bria Virgil also played well with eight points and five rebounds.
Brookwood 60, Loganville 39
LOGANVILLE -- Courtney Gardner of Brookwood led all players in scoring with 21 points on Tuesday night as the Broncos topped Loganville 60-39 in the Gwinnett-Walton Challenge.
Rebecca Walker also helped the Broncos (3-0) in the win with 18 points.
Grayson 49, Monroe Area 37
LOGANVILLE -- Grayson defeated Monroe Area 49-37 on Tuesday night in the Gwinnett-Walton Challenge at Loganville High School.
Tiara James led the Rams (2-1) with nine points and eight rebounds, while Shakara Burton followed with seven points and four steals.
Gordon Lee 70, Meadowcreek 62
DALTON -- Despite a 22-point, six steal and five rebound night from Ashley Okuku, Meadowcreek came up short 70-62 to Gordon Lee in the Southeast Whitfield High School Hoopfest.
Courtney Fields also finished with 10 points and four steals for the Mustangs (0-2), while Gordon Lee was led by a game-high 24 points from Katie Barger.
Central 63, Walnut Grove 32
LOGANVILLE -- Central Gwinnett's girls basketball team finished the Walton-Gwinnett Challenge 3-0 after defeating Walnut Grove 63-32 Tuesday in the tournament finale.
The Black Knights (3-1) were led by Jackie Finnegan, who had 14 points and eight rebounds. They also got big games from Keisha Washington (10 points, eight rebounds, two blocks), Lexus Travis (11 points, six rebounds) and Alexandra Frazier (nine points, eight assists, five steals, four rebounds).
Wesleyan 67, Creekview 44
CUMMING -- Wesleyan advanced to the championship game of the North Forsyth Titan Classic with a 67-44 win over Creekview on Tuesday night. The tournament title game will be played on Wednesday at North Forsyth.
Katie Frerking was one of three Wolves (2-0) to score in double figures, leading all players with 25 points. CaraMia Tsirigos finished with 11 points, while Brittany Stevens followed with 10 points.
Wesleyan improved to 2-0.
Hebron 57, Temple 23
LOGANVILLE -- Hebron improved to 2-1 on Tuesday night with a 57-23 win over Temple in the Gwinnett-Walton Challenge at Loganville High School.
Amber Skidgel led Hebron with 16 points and six rebounds, while Ashley Stanley followed up with 13 points and four assists. Brooke Davis led the team in rebounds with eight.
Brookwood 48, Loganville 47
LOGANVILLE -- Brookwood's Nate Gill hit 6 of 7 free throws in the final minute to help the Broncos hold off Loganville 48-47 on Tuesday night in the Gwinnett-Walton Challenge.
Kendall Joseph and Deion Dedeaux each led Brookwood (3-0) in scoring with 10 points.
Mountain View 71, Chestatee 60
JEFFERSON -- Mountain View notched its first win of the season with a 71-60 victory over Chestatee in the Tabo's Tipoff Tournament at Jefferson High School.
Mountain View (1-2) had three players score in double figures, led by 20 points and 10 rebounds from Caleb Grant. Jaymin Harris also scored 13, while Andre Joseph chipped in with 12 points.
Grayson 62, Monroe Area 44
LOGANVILLE -- Grayson ran its record to 2-1 on Tuesday night with a 62-44 win over Monroe Area in the Gwinnett-Walton Challenge at Loganville High School.
Top scorer for the Rams was Marquise Lanier with 16 points.
Duluth 48, St. Pius 35
CUMMING -- Duluth won the North Forsyth Challenge Tuesday and picked up its first 3-0 start in boys basketball since 1999.
The Wildcats defeated St. Pius 48-35 in the final game of the North Forsyth tourney behind 18 points from Shamus Goss.
Central 56, Walnut Grove 41
LOGANVILLE -- Justin Martin scored 21 points Tuesday to lead Central Gwinnett past Walnut Grove in the Walton-Gwinnett Challenge. The Black Knights are now 3-1 on the season.
Hebron 65, Temple 47
LOGANVILLE -- Hebron Christian picked up its first win of the young season Tuesday afternoon, beating Temple 65-47 in the Walton-Gwinnett Challenge.
Ryan Thomas and Cory Johnson led the Lions (1-2) with 13 points each.
Archer wins Allatoona Duals
ACWORTH -- Archer had seven wrestlers finished undefeated as the Tigers won the Allatoona Duals on Saturday.
Archer beat Woodstock 71-6, North Forsyth 58-18, Cass 57-6 and Gilmer 43-21.
Vinny Artigues, DaQuan Olbert, Chris Diaz, Daniel Bullard, Thomas Bullard, Zach Wright and M.J. Couzan were 4-0 for the Tigers.
Broncos go undefeated at Falcon Duals
DACULA -- Brookwood had five wrestlers go 5-0 as it won the Falcon Duals on Saturday at Dacula.
The Broncos defeated Jackson County 62-18, South Forsyth 53-22, North Gwinnett 48-25, Cherokee 66-3 and Dacula 40-18.
Drew McCrokle (120 pounds), Wyatt Jozwowski (132), Miles Nolan (152), Andrew Collins (160) and Stephen Solamon (182) went 5-0. Ezekiel Johnston (126) was 1-0.
Charles Lee (138), Timothy Mullis (145), Caleb Harris (4-1) and Andy Nguyen (220) went 4-1. Thanh Nguyen (126) and Marcelo Clavarino (170) were 3-1 and Jeremy Quarshie (285) was 3-2.
Buford runner-up at Panther Duals
Buford finished runner-up at the Panthers Duals on Saturday with a 5-1 record.
The Wolves defeated Drew 66-12, Eagles Landing 50-30, Mount Zion 78-6 and Starr's Mill 60-24. Buford lost to Forest Park 42-40 and fell to Locust Grove 54-30 in the finals. Locust Grove was fourth at the state tournament last season.
Jack Barber (120 pounds), Brayden Hartley (132) and Chip Ness (195) went 6-0 for Buford.
