BUFORD -- Pop-ups are kind of the new thing: pop-up chefs, pop-up restaurants and now a pop-up vintage market.

On Saturday and Sunday, The Revival, a pop-up vintage market, opens shop at the Tannery Row Artist Colony with all things -- as you may have guessed -- vintage.

"It is a wonderful mix of things," founder Weatherly Copenhaver said. "There's vintage furniture, including primitive to mid-century to French antiques. People will also see clothing and amazing jewelry where vendors repurpose the vintage pieces and others are selling the original."

Artwork, fabrics, belt buckles and other items are available for purchase.

The Revival is an Atlanta-based project that "pops up" twice a year around the metro area and beyond.

"I have an obsession with vintage and have worked in organizing corporate events for ... years," Copenhaver said. "I wanted to marry the two loves. We were at the Goat Farm (Arts Center in Atlanta) in June and we'll be in Asheville (N.C.) in the spring."

When looking around for the fall pop-up location, Copenhaver did many hours of research and fell in love with the Tannery.

"The location is as important to me as the show," she said. "The Tannery has such a wonderful history behind it. In my search for space and I did some research to find out the Tannery was used for many things, but also to repurpose shoes for soldiers in war."

Besides the locale, the integrity of the items on sale is important to Copenhaver.

"All of our vendors must have 90 percent true vintage inventory or inventory made from vintage parts at least 20 years or older," she said. "Each old piece has its own story that may have been owned by five different people. We may not know the story, but its there."

Repurposed items are accepted, as is original art and handcrafted jewelry that is vintage in nature.

And according to Copenhaver, this market is a great place to start this year's holiday shopping.

"The vendors have all gone to great efforts to have pieces that are appropriate to purchase for other people," she said. "There will be beds, furniture and that sort of stuff, but you can certainly buy a handbag or vintage piece of jewelry. The main purpose is to meet everybody's needs."
