DULUTH -- A Gwinnett educator with 15 years of service to elementary level students has been appointed to become the new principal of Mason Elementary.
David Jones, who is a current assistant principal of Shiloh Elementary, will take the helm at Mason, which is a Peachtree Ridge Cluster elementary school.
He takes the place of veteran Principal Paula DeWeese, who retires at the end of the month.
The Gwinnett County Board of Education approved Jones' appointment Thursday during its monthly meeting.
Jones has worked as an assistant principal at Shiloh since 2010. Prior to that, he was a third-grade teacher at Rockbridge Elementary; a fourth-grade teacher at Craig Elementary; and a first-grade teacher at Craig Elementary.
Jones is currently a member of the 2013 cohort of the school district's Quality-Plus Leader Academy, Aspiring Principal Program.
