COVINGTON — Authorities say five people have been taken to hospitals in an accident that involved a school bus and two cars in Newton County.
The Newton Citizen, the Daily Post's sister paper, reports that three students on the Newton County School System bus were among the injured in the Monday morning wreck. The bus was carrying 34 Alcovy High School students.
School officials say a child and a parent who were riding in the cars were also hurt. School system spokeswoman Sherri Davis-Viniard says the child, an Oak Hill Elementary school student, and an adult in one of the cars were taken to hospitals.
It was not immediately clear how the vehicles collided. The Georgia State Patrol and Newton County Sheriff's Office were investigating what led to the wreck.
