NORCROSS -- The Third Thursday Arts Party in Norcross will showcase several independent films this week produced by area filmmakers.
From 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday in downtown Norcross, film screenings will be shown at the Norcross Arts Center, Kudzu Art Zone and the Vargas Harbin Studio Gallery. The free event that will feature 13 films and the filmmakers will be available for discussion after the screenings.
David Hughes Duke, an Emmy award-winning producer, will be among the filmmakers showcased, along with John Duke and David Porter, whose documentaries have already received exposure on public television and in major media outlets.
The work of Cuban artist Rey Vargas will also be on display on Thursday. He features oil and mixed media.
Other film topics include "Summer Hill: A Story of Community" (now in its seventh year on public television), "La'Teef" -- the profile of an inner-city barber who mentors at-risk youth -- and "City Garden," about a housing project that blossoms into an organic community garden.
