Auburn hosts Christmas motorcade

AUBURN -- The city of Auburn is hosting its annual Mayor's Christmas Motorcade to provide presents to developmentally disabled patients living in Georgia's seven hospitals.

The motorcade's theme is "Pajama Drive." Participants are requested to donate slippers, robes, pajamas or sweats by dropping them off at Auburn City Hall.

"The hospital clients are part of our community," said Auburn Mayor Linda Blechinger in an email.

The Georgia Municipal Association and former Governor Ernest Vandiver founded the Mayor's Christmas Motorcade in 1958.

"The staff at regional hospitals tell us that without the Mayor's Christmas Motorcade, many patients would go without any type of gift or recognition over the holidays," Blechinger said.

Collection has already begun and will continue through Dec. 4, when the donations will be delivered to Georgia Regional Hospital in Atlanta.
