Parkview will host a ceremony Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria to honor eight college-bound athletes -- six baseball players and two girls basketball players.
The baseball group features two players going to Georgia, Jarrett Freeland and Rob Youngblood. Freeland hit .391 with two home runs and 11 RBIs for last season's state championship team, while Youngblood hit .386 with three home runs and 19 RBIs. Teammate Josh Hart, who hit .356 last season, is headed to Georgia Tech.
Fellow baseball players Ryan Blanton (Georgia State), Sam McCoy (North Georgia) and Hunter Thornton (Mercer) also will be honored at the event. Blanton hit .314 with 10 RBIs last season and Thornton hit .314.
Parkview basketball players Marissa Mandeldove (Augusta State) and Mia Marshall (Appalachian State) also will be honored. Mandeldove averaged 9 points and 5.2 assists last season while Marshall missed her junior season with an injury.
