Elizabeth DeShong Kinnett, age 98, of Lilburn, Georgia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. She was predeceased by her husband, Julian F. Kinnett. She is survived by her son & daughter-in-law, Jim & Betty Kinnett, II of Lilburn, GA; three grandsons, Jim Kinnett, III and his wife Darlena of St. Simons Island, Bradley Kinnett of Lilburn, GA, Blake Kinnett and his wife Samantha of Snellville, GA; three great grandchildren, Madison Elizabeth Kinnett, Avery Laura Kinnett, William Jackson Kinnett; two step-great grandchildren, Christopher and Savannah Bergevine; nephew, Reuben Rainey and his wife Sue of Charlottesville, VA; other relatives and a host of friends. Mrs. Kinnett was born in Stone Mountain, Georgia on January 22, 1914, to Addie Mason DeShong and Carl DeShong. She attended the former Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA and Columbia University. She held a Master’s Degree in Education and was a first grade school teacher in the Atlanta Public Schools for 36 years. Mrs. Kinnett was a longtime member of Zoar United Methodist Church. Her greatest joy in live was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to travel and would just get in her car and ride around seeing the different areas in the mountains and to see her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her adoring family. A Service Celebrating the Life of Elizabeth DeShong Kinnett will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at 2:30 P.M. at Zoar United Methodist Church with Mrs. Kinnett placed in state at the church at 2:00 P.M. Rev. Vicki Cater will officiate. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
