DULUTH -- The Board of Directors of ArtWorks! Gwinnett announced Thursday that Executive Director Sally Corbett is stepping down from her position and Raye Varney will serve as Interim Executive Director.
"It has been an honor to be a part of ArtWorks! Gwinnett and to help establish this unifying force for the arts," Corbett said. "I'll miss the exceptional volunteers, artists and civic leaders in Gwinnett."
Corbett has held this position since June 2011. She is leaving ArtWorks! and moving back to her hometown in New York to be "supportive of family."
"We can be proud of what we have created, especially the education series and awards events," she said. "I've already bought my ticket for 'Fusion II' and look forward to seeing everyone in February as ArtWorks! continues to make an impact."
On Nov. 19, Varney will take control of the day-to-day duties in the Duluth office -- and the new ArtWorks! leader is no stranger to the arts community. She is bringing more than 20 years of arts management expertise to Gwinnett, including work with the Georgia Council for the Arts, Georgia Shakespeare, 7 Stages Theatre and Theatre in the Square.
"I'm thrilled to be able to join the terrific team at ArtWorks! and am grateful for all Sally Corbett has done to put the organization on such a firm footing," Varney said.
