LAWRENCEVILLE -- A half-million-dollar sidewalk project will tie together walkable paths in Berkeley Lake, officials said.
Commissioners approved a $455,269 contract with Johnson Landscapes, doing business as Vertical Earth of Cumming, for a project to add sidewalks along North Berkeley Lake Road.
The company, which was the lowest of six bidders, will also add curb and gutter and shoulder improvements to the stretch west of Lakeshore Drive to Bush Road.
"This project ties together a network of pedestrian facilities to enhance the quality of life in this part of the county," Gwinnett Transportation Director Kim Conroy said.
Along with the city of Berkeley Lake's dam reconstruction project, the work will mean sidewalks will run continuously from Peachtree Industrial Boulevard to Bush Road along North Berkeley Lake Road and along Bush Road from North Berkeley Lake to Medlock Bridge Road.
The project's funding comes from the 2009 sales tax program and is anticipated to be complete in mid-2013.
