DULUTH -- In August, the United Way of Gwinnett Women's Leadership Council hosted the Legacy Awards to honor four Gwinnett women for their work in the community, raising $45,000 with the event.
On Wednesday, the council distributed the proceeds from the awards ceremony to local Gwinnett agencies during a luncheon at the 1818 Club.
"It is a pure joyto know that we are able to help so many in needwith proceeds froman event honoring the philanthropic work of incredible women," said Jennifer Thilo, volunteer co-chair for the United Way in Gwinnett Women's Legacy Awards. "I think everyone had a great time and that the positive energy generated will continue to help make Gwinnett a better place to live for all citizens."
The Community Grant for $5,000 is given to "incredible programs that help those significantly in need." This year, the Salvation Army of Gwinnett, Lawrenceville Cooperative Ministry and Norcross Cooperative Ministry received the grants.
The $15,000 High Impact Grant is awarded to "support the work of programs significant to moving the proverbial needle on homelessness" and Partnership Against Domestic Violence and Gwinnett Community Clinic received those grants.
Last year, the United Way Women's Leadership Council was able to distribute $34,000 of Legacy Award Grants to the Lawrenceville Cooperative Ministry, Norcross Cooperative Ministry, the Salvation Army, Rainbow Village, the Impact! Group and CPAC.
