Aurora Theatre takes home seven Suzi Bass Awards

LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Aurora Theatre was nominated for 18 Suzi Bass Awards this year -- 15 of those nominations were for its production of "Clyde 'n Bonnie: A Folktale."

On Monday night, the Lawrenceville theater took home seven Suzis, including the Audience Choice Award.

"Thank you for supporting the arts, your support is a true inspiration to those who have dedicated their lives to creating the very best live entertainment for this community," said a release from the theater.

The other six awards were all for "Clyde 'n Bonnie," which was the most awards given to any show this season.

The Suzis were given in the categories of outstanding world premiere, outstanding director of a musical -- Lonny Price, outstanding music direction -- Ann-Carol Pence, outstanding featured actress in a musical -- Karen Howell, outstanding featured actor in a musical -- Bryant Smith, and outstanding sound design of a musical -- Bobby Johnston.

Not just any theater can be part of the Suzis -- there are certain criteria to be met. The theaters must have the legal rights to plays before they can perform them, they need at least 12 showings of a play and each crew member has to be paid every week.

As for the next round of awards, the Aurora has already received three "Suzi Recommendations" for "Betrayal," "Tigers Be Still" and "Sweet Charity."
