ATLANTA — In-person early voting in Georgia wrapped up Friday, although absentee ballots can still be received.
The Secretary of State's office will not release early voting totals until Monday, though at mid-week the pace was on track to fall short of the 2 million early ballots cast in 2008.
The campaigns for President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney have put a strong emphasis on early voting in swing states. But Georgia never materialized as a clear battleground, so the two campaigns focused their turnout efforts elsewhere.
Polls suggest Romney, the former governor of Massachusetts, holds a solid lead in Georgia. Republican John McCain carried the state four years ago when Obama won the presidency.
