NORCROSS -- Cornerstone Christian Academy recently collected 227 pounds of cans, earning the school a $1,500 check from Novelis to be used for math and science education.
The other pilot school that collected cans was Sweet Apple Elementary. The school collected 494 pounds and got a $2,000 check.
With the schools' collective efforts, the Make-A-Wish Foundation will receive $594.10 to benefit the organization.
Trailers are still at both schools throughout the summer to keep collecting cans.

Coast Guard safety classes offered
FLOWERY BRANCH -- Flotilla 29 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Lake Lanier announces a one-day, seven-lesson About Boating Safely course. The course is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 9.
The course also serves as a PWC certified course for children under the age of 16. The course will be given at the Coast Guard Auxiliary Operations Center, 6595 Lights Ferry Road, Flowery Branch, on the left just before the entrance to Aqualand Marina.
Classes are $40, and discounts are available for additional family members.
Course contents include:

-- Navigating the Waterways
-- Operating your Vessel...Safely
-- Legal Requirements of Boating
-- Boating Emergencies...What to do
-- Enjoying Watersports with your Boat
-- State of Georgia Regulations

Credit union and G-Braves team up
Delta Community Credit Union has teamed up with the Gwinnett Braves to sponsor a Chopper Piggy Bank Giveaway for the first 2,000 children in attendance at Saturday's game, which is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Coolray Field.
The game will also feature a delayed Groundhogs Day celebration for Gwinnett Braves mascot, Chopper. Bill Mesplay, CIO for Delta Community, will throw the first pitch.
