Providence Christian and Charlton County will have to wait longer to start their Class A state baseball championship series after weather forecasts for Tuesday prompted the Georgia High School Association to rule out play beginning.
However, there is apparently literal sunlight at the end of the tunnel.
With improved weather forecast for the Southeast Georgia coast Wednesday, the best-of-three series is now tentatively scheduled to proceed with a doubleheader Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m., with the if necessary third game set for Thursday at a time to be determined.
The ruling came as welcome news to the Stars (25-11), who will set out on the road for Folkston in the extreme Southeast corner of the state sometime Tuesday after a week of waiting to take on the No. 4 state-ranked Indians (29-4), who are coached by Meadowcreek grad Thad Marchman.
"They're ready to play," Providence coach Adam Cantrell said of his players. "We're just glad to have a date to play set and not be sitting in limbo."
