Two Suwanee natives have organized a get-together for today (May 27) from 2-4 p.m.

Linda Fleming and John Titshaw recently invited Suwanee natives and long-time residents to a meet and greet at 667 Main Street, the old Joe Brogdon Store building that Titshaw owns. Titshaw said it would be a time to "speak to one another outside of a funeral home, to have a piece of cake and shake hands." Titshaw added that it's a "non-political event."

Polling place clarification

City of Suwanee officials want to remind voters that on July 31, the polling place for the special election for the open city council seat is at City Hall, while voters' regular Gwinnett County polling place is the place to vote on the Transportation Investment Act.

Historic register application submitted

The historic register district application that the Downtown Development Authority has made a priority this year was recently filed with the state Department of Natural Resources, Michael Deming, Jr. said. Deming Jr. made a lease-to-purchase transaction last year with the DDA to buy Pierce's Corner. Deming said the state has a self-imposed deadline of the second week of June. Representatives from the DNR are expected to visit the proposed historic district after the application is processed.

North senior earns community award

Sa Rang Lee, a Sugar Hill resident and senior at North Gwinnett received an engraved bronze medallion to recognize his

selection as a Distinguished Finalist in the 2012 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. Lee founded the "Atlanta Mission Team," a church youth group that went on a religious mission trip to impoverished areas of Brazil to help youths who live there.

Sphire to host football camp

North Gwinnett football coach Bob Sphire will host an instructional camp for kids ages 7-13 on June 11-13 from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The "Air Raid" Camp is a non-contact football camp designed to allow each player to develop both skills and knowledge of football. The camp emphasizes fundamental techniques and drills along with verbal instructions.

Campers will learn the passing attack and running game that Sphire brings to North Gwinnett. Defense concentrates on teaching campers how to make big plays and shut down the opposition.

Registration is $100 before June 1 and $110 after June 1. Applications can be found at ngfootball.org.

GCPS honors custodians

Gwinnett County Public Schools recently honored head custodians during its annual appreciation breakfast. The school district thanked 90 custodians for helping to maintain a safe, clean and orderly learning environment. The custodians honored in the North Gwinnett and Peachtree Ridge clusters were Mihaela Merisanu of Burnette Elementary, Sherri Davis of Level Creek Elementary, Ronda Price of Suwanee Elementary, Gabriela Dan of Parsons Elementary, Deborah Free of Jackson Elementary, Cornelia Berende of Hull Middle and Lynn Butler of North Gwinnett Middle.-- From staff reports
