AUGUSTA -- Providence scored first but couldn't hold off Aquinas in a 2-1 loss in the boys soccer Class A state semifinals Tuesday.
The Stars (13-8) persevered this season, dealing with a slew of injuries, to make the Final Four. Even in Tuesday's semifinal, Providence played without one of its best attackers in the first half because of a hamstring injury. The Stars had chances in the final 17 minutes, after Aquinas took a 2-1 lead, and just couldn't punch in a tying goal.
"We worked really hard," head coach Todd Henry said. "We had a lot of injuries this season. The team kept bouncing back. We've been really blessed to get where we are."
Caleb McQuaig put Providence up 1-0 in the first half, converting on an assist from fellow senior Josh Platillero.
In the last six years, the Stars have been state runner-up twice, including last season, and made it to the Final Four two other times.
