LAWRENCEVILLE -- Gwinnett County Schools Police arrested a Mill Creek High School student on charges she was carrying a dagger on the Hoschton school's campus.
Authorities arrested freshman Shamtellt Lopez, 18, on Friday morning. She had "a dagger with a 2 inch blade in a leather scabbard concealed in the waistband of her jeans," according to arrest warrants.
Gwinnett Public Schools spokesman Jorge Quintana said Lopez showed the weapon to someone else, who then reported it to administrators.
"I'm told that she did not pull the weapon on anyone but did show it," Quintana said.
Lopez is charged with carrying a deadly weapon at a public gathering and carrying a concealed weapon. Jail records list both charges as misdemeanors.
Lopez also faces disciplinary action at school, Quintana said. She was released from the Gwinnett County Jail the day of her arrest on $3,700 bond.
