LAWRENCEVILLE — Gwinnett police nabbed a pair of bank robbery suspects as they fled the scene of a subsequent car accident Tuesday.
Authorities said the two suspects — later identified as Anwand R. Jackson, 34, of Norcross and Herbert Hector, 36, of Atlanta — entered the Wells Fargo Bank at 3072 Old Norcross Road in Duluth at about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday. Jackson and Hector were wearing masks and brandished at least one semi-automatic handgun, an FBI spokesman said.
The duo made out with an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing in a maroon Honda Accord. Gwinnett County police officers followed the suspect vehicle onto Interstate 85. The suspect vehicle exited I-85 southbound at Pleasantdale Road, where it “crashed into several vehicles at an intersection” near a QuikTrip gas station, authorities said.
Jackson and Hector reportedly fled on foot but were captured shortly thereafter, Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said.
Both men will now face federal charges of armed bank robbery. They will have an initial appearance in federal court Wednesday, officials said.
