ATLANTA (AP) — Drivers in Georgia could face a traffic ticket if they don't buckle up.
The Governor's Office of Highway Safety is launching the annual "Click It or Ticket" campaign on May 21. Drivers can expect a ticket if they don't buckle up because hundreds of law enforcement agencies across the state will be looking for violators.
The office says 423 people older than the age of 5 were killed in crashes where they were unrestrained in 2010.
Office director Harris Blackwood says "our police officers, state troopers and sheriff's deputies are prepared to ticket anyone who isn't buckled up."

The seatbelt law is pretty much a joke. You get a ticket, it is $15.00 to $20.00 and it does not go on your driving record. If you want people to wear their seatbelts, hit them where it hurts. In Washington state, first time offense if a $110.00 fine.....Come on, tiime to get more serious here folks..

Sure, up the fine, it could be designated for trauma centers…
Of course it could then be redirected by state representatives to fund a Go Fish facility project in south GA or whatever other whims may come up. Time to hang it up - it's NOT about safety any longer folks.

either raise the tickets to $75+ or don't worry about it. If people get kill, sobeit if they are that ignorant. Just let insurance companies start denying 50% of the injury claims if they are caught without a seatbelt on. Pretty simple solution for the idiots out there.

I always wear my safety belts, but we really don't need a seatbelt law.

Now this is another 'cash cow' for the local police and government that use radar and getting close to the alloted funds that can be raised for radar use. The government and the insurance companies control this issue. Most users of seat belts do so because they want to. Some want it to be optional. If you want it to be optional then you pay for any claims against the insurance company. You as a driver or passenger should have a choice after 18 years but must also know that there are Responsibilities for *your actions.
