An early goal by Edmonton and a red card on Atlanta early in the second half helped send the Silverbacks to their second straight defeat 2-0 on Saturday.

Brandon Beachy pitched six innings of one-run ball and helped himself with an RBI single, Michael Bourn added a solo homer and the Atlanta Braves beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-2 Saturday night.

Milton finally broke its North Gwinnett curse in the girls soccer playoffs Saturday night. The top-ranked Eagles had been eliminated by North the previous two years in the postseason, but they finally broke through with a 6-1 victory in the Class AAAAA girls soccer quarterfinals.

Complete effort sends Eagles past Lassiter 4-0

After an initial adjustment period, Collins Hill pretty much put everything together in its Class AAAAA girls state quarterfinal game against Lassiter. A run of three goals in the final 15:18 of the first half complemented timely defense as the No. 6 state-ranked Eagles rolled to a 4-0 win.
