LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Gwinnett Braves have announced the recipient of the April "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" themed grant -- i.DEAL Inc., of Grayson.
The organization, famous for the "Cinderella's Closet" program, will use the $1,000 grant to start up its brand new Keep Moving Project, aimed at halting teenage obesity.
The $1,000 grant will be directly applied to the project to assist in the purchase of portable fitness equipment, healthy snacks and raw food products for cooking classes, advertisement to promote the program in the community.
"We are proud, honored and extremely grateful to receive this grant from the Gwinnett Braves," said Germaine Leroux, founder and president of i.DEAL Inc. "We look forward to great success with the Keep Moving Project and are always looking for dedicated volunteers and sponsors. We are excited about an ongoing partnership with the Gwinnett Braves in improving teen health."
The organization will be recognized at Coolray Field on July 8 prior to the Gwinnett Braves game against Durham.
Alzheimer's support group meets Thursday
BETHLEHEM -- An Alzheimer's Family Support group will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bethlehem First United Methodist Church.
Dr. Wallace Kelleman will be the special guest speaker. Prior to becoming an attorney specializing in elder law, Kelleman was a registered critical care nurse for 38 years.
Kelleman is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and the Gwinnett Bar Association as well as other legal and professional associations.
Boating course scheduled
FLOWERY BRANCH -- Flotilla 29 of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Lake Lanier, has announced a one-day, seven-lesson boating safety course, scheduled for May 19.
The course also serves as a PWC certified course for children under the age of 16. The course will be given at the Coast Guard Auxiliary Operations Center, 6595 Lights Ferry Road, Flowery Branch,.
Classes run from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $40. Discounts are available for additional family members.
