Canadian athletes test their mettle on Lake Lanier

GAINESVILLE (AP) -- The Olympics dreams for dozens of Canadian athletes are being decided in a north Georgia lake.

The Lake Lanier Olympic Center recently hosted canoe and kayaking Olympic trials for Canada ahead of the summer games in London.

About 75 Canadian paddlers competed on Lake Lanier on Friday through Sunday.

The rowing venue at the lake hosted Olympic events in 1996 and the 2003 Sprint Canoe/Kayak World Championships.

The site will draw canoe and kayak athletes from across the U.S. later this month when it hosts the 2012 U.S. Marathon Team Trials. While not associated with the Olympics, this event is the qualifier to represent the U.S. at the Marathon World Championships in Rome, Italy.
