PREP ROUNDUP: Lanier swept in first round of playoffs

RINGGOLD -- Lanier's first trip to the state playoffs ended quickly on Friday. The Longhorns were swept by Rinngold 11-1 and 14-4 in five innings.

"They were a very good team," Lanier head coach Chad Longe said.

In Game 1, Lanier was held to just two hits. T.J. Richardson and Austin Wood went 1-for-2 and Taylor Grant had an RBI.

Kevin Clark went 3-for-3 with an RBI in Game 2. Richardson was 1-for-2 with a double, Stephen Rusch was 2-for-3 and Michael Diaz was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

The second-year program finished the season 15-12.

"We're looking forward to next year," Longe said.

BASEBALL

Wesleyan knocked out of baseball playoffs

KENNESAW -- Wesleyan lost to Mount Paran 5-4 and 3-1 in Friday's doubleheader in the first round of the Class A playoffs.

Mason Colquitt was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in Game 1, while Joseph Sheffield was 1-for-3 with a double.

Colquitt went 1-for-2 with a solo homer in Game 2, while Will Anderson was 1-for-3 with a double for the Wolves (16-11). Sheldon Connor pitched six innings, allowing one earned run and striking out five.

GIRLS SOCCER

GAC 10, Manchester 0

NORCROSS -- Rachel Garcia and Halle Huff each scored three goals in GAC's 10-0 win over Manchester in the first round of the Class AA playoffs on Friday.

Danielle Marcano had two goals and one assist. Jamie Campbell and Mollie Arrendale scored one goal and Brynn Finneran had four assists. Goalkeeper Elizabeth White added an assist along with Kelsey Fervier and Hannah Huizenga.

GAC will play Putnam County in the second round next week.

Strong Rock 3, Providence 2

LOCUST GROVE -- Providence lost to Strong Rock 3-2 in the first round of the Class A playoffs on Friday.

Kat Slayton had a goal on an assist from Robyn Lowdnes. Brooke Kelly scored the second goal.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Peachtree Ridge 20, Collins Hill 9

SUWANEE -- Michelle Fortier scored 10 goals to lead Peachtree Ridge to a 20-9 victory over Collins Hill on Friday and the Area 4-AAAAA championship.

Darby Frisbie had four goals and two assists and Caitlin Palanza added three goals and two assists. Fortier's 10 goals giver her 97 for her career.

Peachtree Ridge will host McEachern in the first round of the state playoffs on Wednesday.
