ROSWELL -- Tied 2-2 after playing four matches Tuesday, North Gwinnett has a chance to knock off undefeated No. 2 Roswell in girls tennis today.
One of North's No. 2 doubles players had a conflict with another school extracurricular Tuesday and the teams agreed to play the other four matches, with the fifth a day later if necessary.
The Bulldogs split the matches to force a meeting today at 4 p.m. at Roswell to decide which team advances to the Class AAAAA state quarterfinals. Isabel Balsavage won at No. 3 singles, while Haley Wix and Emma Etelalahti earned a point at No. 1 doubles for North.
Peachtree Ridge 3, Woodstock 0
SUWANEE -- Top-ranked Peachtree Ridge was up in its two remaining matches when the 3-0 sweep of Woodstock was official in the second round of the Class AAAAA playoffs Tuesday.
Earning points for the Lions (18-2) in singles matches were Jessica Northcutt (No. 1) and Abby Owens (No. 2). Sisters Erin and Ali Mills won at No. 1 doubles to propel Peachtree Ridge into the state quarterfinals.
The Lions, who have only lost to Class AAAA's Lambert this season, will play Brookwood in the next round.
Brookwood 3, Northview 2
SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood edged out Northview 3-2 in the second round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs Tuesday, setting up a quarterfinal matchup with No. 1 Peachtree Ridge.
The doubles teams -- No. 1 Alex Adams/Sheridan Schuster and No. 2 Natalie Nabors/Maddy Stanitzke -- picked up points for Brookwood (15-4). The third point came from Rebecca Norton at No. 3 singles.
Wesleyan 3, Gordon Lee 0
NORCROSS -- Wesleyan cruised to wins in all three singles matches to oust Gordon Lee 3-0 in the second round of the Class A state playoffs Tuesday.
No. 1 Megan Kelly, No. 2 Savannah Strickland and No. 3 Sarah Settlage all closed out their opponents before the doubles matches ended. The Wolves (16-5) move on to the quarterfinals.
GAC 4, Calhoun 0
CALHOUN -- Greater Atlanta Christian shut out Calhoun 4-0 in the second round of the Class AA state playoffs on the road Tuesday, advancing to the quarterfinals.
Sweeping the singles matches were Remi Andre (No. 1), Julia Bryan (No. 2) and Phoenix Gandy (No. 3). Also collecting a point for the Spartans (14-6) was the No. 1 doubles pairing of Meghan Mitchell and Rachel Chupp.
GAC 3, River Ridge 0
WOODSTOCK -- Greater Atlanta Christian advanced to the Class AA state quarterfinals with a 3-0 win over River Ridge on Tuesday.
No. 1 David Burdett and No. 2 Peyton McGuire won their singles matches. Daniel Ray and Jared Metzger were victorious at No. 2 doubles for the Spartans (8-12).
Lassiter 3, Collins Hill 1
SUWANEE -- Collins Hill lost just its third match of the season and was eliminated from the Class AAAAA state playoffs 3-1 by Lassiter on Tuesday.
Ian Melnik picked up the only point for Collins Hill (19-3) at No. 3 singles.
Peachtree Ridge 20, Brookwood 8
SNELLVILLE -- Michelle Fortier scored 10 goals and had four assists in Peachtree Ridge's 20-8 win over Brookwood on Tuesday.
Darby Frisbie (three goals, four assists) and Kayla Jones (three goals, three assists) also contributed to the win for the Lions (13-4, 8-1).
Wesleyan 16, St. Pius 15
NORCROSS -- Courtney O'Leary scored eight goals to lead Wesleyan to a 16-15 victory over St. Pius on Tuesday.
Lindsay Moore and Carolina Jordan each added four goals for the Wolves (7-9-1).
Grayson 10, West Forsyth 6
CUMMING -- Grayson came from behind, getting the go-ahead goal from Brandon Kelly in the fourth quarter, to beat West Forsyth 10-6 on Tuesday.
Ben Mertz led the Rams' attack with three goals. Zach Dirkse had two goals and two assists, while Thatcher Smith added two goals and one assist. Garrett Gorski and Nate Peters also scored for Grayson (12-4). Goalie Josh Parris made 13 saves in the win.
GAC 15, Wesleyan 7
NORCROSS -- Greater Atlanta Christian got four goals from Peter Whiteneck and defeated Wesleyan 15-7 in a make-up game Tuesday.
Whiteneck also had two assists for the Spartans (12-4). Whit Anderson had three goals and three assists. Gunner Cape added three goals and two assists. Eric Reynolds and Sam Harte each scored twice. Conor Finneran had a goal and Sawyer Buce added an assist. GAC goalie Stewart Butler made 11 saves in the win.
Blake Davis scored four goals for Wesleyan. Blake Center, Jake Miller and Luke Cowart all added a goal for the Wolves.
