PEACHTREE CORNERS -- First, the mayor was picked -- a job Mike Mason earned, after leading Peachtree Corners into cityhood, when he was the only one to qualify for the ballot.

Last month, two council members were elected.

But after whittling down a big slate of men and women vying to become a part of the new city's first council, voters have to go back to the polls Tuesday to make their final selections.

The runoff, where people can vote from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the western corner of the county between Norcross, Berkeley Lake and Sandy Springs, brings the top two candidates for four council posts to the ballot.

With a total of 19 people on the ballot for six seats, few expected the council races to end in March.

Gwinnett Elections Director Lynn Ledford said she expects a low turnout.

Only about 5,000 people voted in the special election in March, which was held the same day as the presidential preference primary. Typically, she said, turnouts for runoffs are even lower. The election is also being held during the spring break period for Gwinnett County Public Schools.
