AUBURN — The body of a Dacula motorcyclist was discovered near Auburn Thursday evening, days after a fatal crash, Gwinnett police said.
Police on Friday identified the victim as 39-year-old James Etheridge. His body and 1998 black motorcycle were found about 7 p.m. Thursday on Mount Moriah Road, between Clark Drive and High Point Drive, said Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter.
“It’s believed that the driver had been deceased for at least a couple days before being discovered,” Ritter said.
According to accident investigators, Etheridge was eastbound on Mount Moriah Road when he failed to negotiate a left curve and struck a guardrail, continued down an embankment and struck several small trees, which killed him.
Neither the driver nor the motorcycle were visible from the roadway. It was unknown Friday if alcohol or drugs were contributing factors, Ritter said.
How the body was discovered was not immediately known Friday morning.
An investigation continues, Ritter said.
