LETTER: Medicare cost increases are hidden

All too many seniors have been deceived by the Obama deception that under his plan, Medicare will be preserved. Perhaps my fellow seniors need to get a grip on reality.

Not only will Obamacare soon reduce payments to doctors that will effectively drive doctors away from willingly treating Medicare patients but the cost to seniors will dramatically increase.

Current Medicare cost to seniors is $96.40 monthly. In 2012 the cost will increase to $104.20. In 2013 the cost will be $120.23. In 2014 the cost will double to $247.00. The harshest restrictions on medical care for seniors are being hidden until after his "re-election".

When will you fellow seniors who blindly vote Democrat understand that not only will our Medicare cost more and that the oncoming restrictions on medical care will effectively severely ration medical care for seniors? Isn't it time for you lifelong Democrat-worshiping seniors to recognize that your "savior" is actually your enemy? Do you fellow seniors actually understand that the Obama appointee to manage your medical care is a worshipper of British medical care which effectively rations medical care based on age and "worthiness"?

Are you serious, or are you a Stephen Colbert want-to-be? You state "When will you fellow seniors who blindly vote Democrat understand that not only will our Medicare cost more and that the oncoming restrictions on medical care will effectively severely ration medical care for seniors?" and so I must assume your alternative is to blindly vote for a Republican that has openly supported a plan to abolish Medicare and allow private companies to ration health care. I am curious about your obviously incorrect numbers. You state that premiums in 2012 will be $104.20. The annual increase actually occurred in January 2012, This made the current (i.e. 2012) rates raised to $99.90, not the $104.20 you stated. Obviously, we do not know what the rates will be in 2014, too many unknown factors.

Mr. Wade, with just a little research, I was able to find the source of your bogus information. The information came from an email that has been circulating around the web for several months. In fact, part of your letter is a exact copy of the letter. Check out http://www.snopes.com/politics/medical/medicare.asp for more details. Say_that_again is correct about the current rates being $99.90. These rates are set in the fall for the following year. Though Say_that_again is technically correct that we do not know what it will be, we do have some an estimate of $115.80 for 2014. It should be noted that the estimate for 2012 was several dollars higher until the figures were published in the fall. It is unfortunate that too many people prefer circulating misinformation to taking a little time to look up the facts.

Ernest, do you earnestly believe the garbage you wrote? I do realize your extreme prejudice when you insist on referring to the health care legislation as "Obamacare". It is also improper to call the Massachusetts plan RomneyCare. Your lack of understanding illustrates the problem with party politics. You obviously rallied around the Republican rhetoric without checking the facts. All insurance providers work with doctors to determine a customary and reasonable pay for particular procedures. This method will not change with this legislation. For those that note my changed Avatar, it seems that there are some that wish I would crawl under a rock and quit telling facts. This looked like the perfect rock!

Like it has been said a hundred times, Romney's plan is only for his state. The whole country isn't bound by whatever those people wanted there. It was their business, not yours or mine. Obamacare is my business. It is driving up premiums for no reason execpt for the poor suckers who work for a living to pay for everyone else. You can't shove this on the people, you will see. Why wasn't the liberal plan doen more openly and easily, like make a Medicare Part Z for all the zombies out there that want to stay on welfare for life? There was no reason to make a 2,000 pg hidden agenda. I am glad many said they will not follow that law anyway.

kevin, my point was the absurd labeling of the laws. Both laws were created by the respective legislatures, not the executive branch. While it is true that President Obama and Governor Romney encouraged the passing of a health care plan that would trim costs and have more people covered, neither gave more than a terse outline of desired features. The length of the National Health Care came from Congress and included features desired by Republicans. As far as the mandate is concerned, we already have a mandate that people must be treated in emergency rooms, even those without insurance. We also know emergency room service is much more expensive than doctor office visits. If you really do not like freeloaders, you would like the National Healthcare legislation which helps lessen the number of uninsured taking advantage of the emergency room loophole. The plan also includes many cost savings features and will reduce the growth of premiums. Of course, if your main interest is premium cost, then you must support a single payer system. As for those that "...will not follow that law anyway. " those are the ones that are planning to use the services of emergency rooms and then shirk on payments when they learn how much it costs.

Jan, what are you smoking. It must be some powerful stuff if you really believe the stuff you write. Obama was the driving force behind Obama care, not the legislature. The legislature fought it but were forced into it with Obama's antics. It will be an expensive albatross if we don't dump it before it dumps us.

It was the Democrats that wrote 2,000 pgs, not the Repulblicans. The GOP and the people never got a chance to read it all befor eit was shoved through and passed "under the table." You need to get the facts correct. Once a LIberal, always a LIberal. We won't follow this trash law. It could have been attached as a simple Medicare Part Z and done with only a slight change in the Medicare Part A&B parts. No, it created 2,000 pgs of a new bureaucracy

Medicare Advantage plans will be voided in Obamacare, thus cutting $500 billion from Medicare costs. Read the bill.

Obama cut Medicare by $500 billion in that same bill. Don't old people read anymore? It affects everyone with a Medicare advantage plan. They will be no longer.
