Ga. 324 work hits milestone

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Construction of the Ga. Highway 324 widening in Buford reached a milestone this week, when crews split traffic to each side of a median.

Traffic shifted Thursday, when drivers began using the outside lane on each side of the median. A Georgia Department of Transportation spokeswoman said only one lane will be open for use in each direction until the final layer of asphalt is in place and the associated striping is finished.

She said the $11.2 million project, which replaces the bridge over Interstate 85, is on schedule for completion by the end of May.

Crews from Strickland and Sons Pipeline Inc. still have median and asphalt work to finish, as well as dressing the shoulders, grassing, landscaping and punch list items.
