Snellville man suffers extensive burns in fire

SNELLVILLE -- A Snellville man suffered extensive burns Wednesday after pouring gasoline on a backyard fire, officials said.

The man, who was not identified, was found sitting near a control burn on the 2000 block of Killian Hill Road when Gwinnett firefighters arrived just before 5 p.m. Wednesday. The 44-year-old man had second-degree burns to his head, upper body and upper extremities and was rushed to Grady Burn Center in Atlanta, fire department spokesman Lt. Eric Eberly said.

The victim was listed in stable condition.

"The injured man stated that he had thrown (gasoline) on the fire to aid in burning the debris in the control burn," Eberly said.

The fire was extinguished and ruled accidental.
