PREP ROUNDUP: Broncos impressive in national baseball tournament

CARY, N.C. -- Lucas Sims pitched six one-hit innings as Brookwood blanked Highlands Ranch (Colo.) 7-0 Wednesday in the National High School Invitational at the USA Baseball Complex.

Sims struck out 10 and walked four in the win. He also was 1-for-3 at the plate. Cedric Mullins had a hit and two RBIs, while Ryan Woodard drove in three runs with a double for the Broncos (7-3). Michael Gouge and Clint Carr each added a hit.


Parkview 11, George Washington (N.Y.) 2

CARY, N.C. -- Parkview handled George Washington (N.Y.) 11-2 Wednesday in the National High School Invitational at the USA Baseball Complex. Matt Olson (4-0) gave up two runs and three hits with five strikeouts in six innings to get the win for the Panthers (10-2).

Olson also had a big day at the plate by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Edwin Arias was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored, Jeff Ronpirin was 2-for-3 and drove in a run, Rob Youngblood had a hit and two RBIs, and Jack Esmonde and Hunter Thornton added an RBI each.

Peachtree Ridge 8, Duluth 2

SUWANEE -- Tyler Haswell and Tripp Miller each hit home runs as Peachtree Ridge beat Duluth 8-2 in Region 7-AAAAA action Wednesday. Haswell was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, while Miller went 2-for-3 with a solo shot and two RBIs. Cooper Burdick also had two hits for the Lions (9-5, 4-2), while Bryan Hanberry added an RBI. Donald Frew (4-0) gave up one earned run in four innings to get the win. He allowed eight hits and struck out four.

Central 8, Meadowcreek 4

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Luis Valdez knocked in three runs and scored twice as Central Gwinnett beat Meadowcreek 8-4 Wednesday. Valdes was 2-for-2 to lead the Black Knights (5-9). Grant Thiel was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Roy Clackum (1-0) struck out three in 4 innings to get the win. He was also 1-for-2 at the plate.

Grayson 10, Archer 5

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Jack Banda had three hits to lead Grayson to a 10-5 win over Archer Wednesday. Ryan Barry had a double and a run scored, while Taylor Allum was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Rams (9-4, 3-1). Allum was also the winning pitcher, going five innings and giving up four runs with four strikeouts.

Shiloh 4, Dacula 3

SNELLVILLE -- Jeremy Glore had a three-run double as Shiloh beat Dacula 4-3 Wednesday. Gilberto Lopez was 2-for-3 for the Generals (10-5, 3-2). Chase Waters (3-0) went five innings to get the win. He allowed two runs, one earned.

Dylan Brown (1-2) picked up the loss. He gave up three runs in 4 innings and struck out nine. Morgan Loyd was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Brandyn Bartlett also had two hits for the Falcons (3-12, 2-3).

Mill Creek 5, Norcross 1

NORCROSS -- Cody Pugh allowed one run in 5 innings as Mill Creek beat Norcross 5-1 Wednesday. Pugh (5-1) allowed three hits and struck out three to get the win. Shane Seckinger pitched 1 innings of no-hit ball in relief. Kevin Kirk and Jesse Thomas each had a hit and an RBI for the Hawks (9-5, 6-2).

Jackson Williams (1-3) suffered the loss for Norcross. Zach Shirah was 2-for-3 with a double for the Blue Devils (6-7, 2-4). Joseph Wilber added a triple.

GAC 7, Therrell 2

ATLANTA -- Will Parker and John LaMay each hit solo homers as Greater Atlanta Christian beat Therrell 7-2 Saturday. Parker went 2-for-3, while LaMay was 3-for-4 for the Spartans (11-4, 4-2). Rafe Chapple added two hits. Tim Desmond (4-0) pitched a complete game to get the win, striking out eight.

West Hall 9, Lanier 5

OAKWOOD -- Lanier gave up nine unanswered runs in a 9-5 loss to West Hall on Wednesday. Stephen Rusch was 3-for-4 for the Longhorns (7-5, 5-3). Austin Wood was 2-for-4 with a double.

Buford 14, Maynard Jackson 2

BUFORD -- Mikey Bart hit a home run and drove in four runs as Buford beat Maynard Jackson 14-2 in five innings Wednesday. Bart was 3-for-4 to lead the Wolves (9-8, 6-0). Ryan Bramlett and Josh Byran each had three hits and three RBIs. Austin Upshaw (1-1) picked up the win. He allowed one earned run and eight hits in five innings with six strikeouts.


Brookwood hands Parkview first loss

SNELLVILLE -- Brookwood gave Parkview its first defeat of the season with an 86-95 win Wednesday at Summit Chase Country Club. Taylor Allen shot a 4-over par round of 40 for the Broncos. Leah Chandley had a 46 for the Panthers (4-1).

Mill Creek falls to North Oconee

STATHAM -- Mill Creek dropped a match to North Oconee 81-85 Wednesday. Ari Roberts shot a 2-over par 38 for the Hawks (4-2).

Peachtree Ridge takes care of Collins Hill

DULUTH -- Peachtree Ridge beat Collins Hill 80-100 Wednesday at TPC at Sugarloaf. Sydney Hickman and Jenny Li each shot rounds of 40 for the Lions. Ellen Min and Meritt Williams both had 50s for the Eagles.

Dacula defeats Grayson

DACULA -- Dacula beat Grayson 83-92 on Wednesday at Trophy Club of Apalachee. Lindsey Wilson shot a 40 to lead the Falcons, while Julie Spangler had a 41 for the Rams.


Parkview holds off Broncos

SNELLVILLE -- Branden Gibbs shot a 2-over par 38 to lead Parkview to a 157-160 win over Brookwood on Wednesday at Summit Chase Country Club. Aaron DeSilva and Drew Long were each 3-over for the Panthers (2-3). Patrick Kendrick led the Broncos with a 38.

Grayson bests Dacula

DACULA -- Grayson took care of Dacula 167-181 Wednesday at Trophy Club of Apalachee. Michael Clay had the low round of the day with a 38 to lead the Rams. Harold Lei had a 41 to lead the Falcons.


Buford 4, North Hall 1

BUFORD -- Buford swept the doubles matches in a 4-1 win over North Hall on Wednesday. Savannah Whaley and Abbey Mitchell won the No. 1 doubles match for the Wolves (11-4). Jessica Thompson and Rebecca Hendrix won at the No. 2 doubles line. Kelley Cohron and Annalea Stevens won singles matches.

North 5, Norcross 0

SUWANEE -- North Gwinnett shut out Norcross 5-0 Wednesday. Shannon Bettiol, Hannah Serdinia and Izzy Balsavage won the singles matches for the Bulldogs (11-5, 4-2). Haley Wix and Emma Etelalahti earned a point at No. 1 doubles, while Lizzy Bradley and Arianna Callan won the No. 2 match.

Parkview 3, Grayson 2

LOGANVILLE -- Parkview held off Grayson 3-2 Wednesday. The doubles teams of Daron Blankenship and Kristin Miller and Maddie Carswell and Katie Linton won their matches. Megan Reeves also won the No. 3 singles match for the Panthers (8-7).


Buford 5, North Hall 0

BUFORD -- Buford blanked North Hall 5-0 Wednesday. Colby West, Rob Hunter and Alex Turner were winners in the singles matches for the Wolves (13-2). In doubles, Josh Thompson and Skyler Wilson won the No. 1 match. Nicholas Becker and Jabin Stepp won the No. 2 match.

Parkview 4, Grayson 1

LOGANVILLE -- Parkview beat Grayson 4-1 Wednesday. Andy Coombs and Sunny Tran won their singles matches for the Panthers (9-8). Walter Seals and Hunter Stroud picked up the win at No. 1 doubles, while Chris Whitlock and Takuto Osawa handled the No. 2 doubles match.


Duluth 19, Norcross 8

DULUTH -- Ali Cole scored nine goals as Duluth beat Norcross 19-8 Wednesday. Noah Holt added four goals and an assist for the Wildcats (6-7, 4-2). Goalie Paige Falkowski made 12 saves.

North 9, Brookwood 7

SNELLVILLE -- Lauren Aycock scored four goals as North Gwinnett knocked off Brookwood 9-7 Wednesday. Erica Smith and Sylvia Chou each had two goals and three draw controls for the Bulldogs (6-4, 4-1). Smith also had an assist. Goalie Victoria Del Nero made nine saves.


Peachtree Ridge 18, Parkview 0

SUWANEE -- Peachtree Ridge recorded its second straight shutout with an 18-0 win over Parkview on Wednesday. Greg Rose and Sourish Ray combined on the shutout with three saves apiece. Eleven different players scored goals for the Lions (7-4), including Michael Ford and Matty Ledon, who each had two goals. Trevor Lee, Austin Clarke, Gus Johnson and Jacob Lee were among those with one goal.
