ATLANTA (AP) -- It's almost unimaginable. No one picked the six correct numbers in the latest multi-state Mega Millions lottery game, sending the jackpot to a record $500 million for the Friday drawing.
Tuesday night's jackpot was $363 million, fed by weeks of drawings without a top winner. The previous record jackpot in the Mega Millions game was $390 million in 2007, split by two winners in New Jersey and Georgia.
In Tuesday night's game, 47 players came very close, matching 5 of the 6 winning numbers. Each of those tickets is worth at least $250,000.
Mega Millions is played in more than 40 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The winning numbers Tuesday night were: Nine, 19, 34, 44 and 51. The Mega Ball was 24.

It breaks my heart every time I pass one those lottery billboards. To think what we as a society now tolerate and even endorse such immoral activities - gambling, alcohol (even on Sundays!), abortion, welfare, pornography, homosexuality - makes me realize that we are nearing the end of our 'empire', just like the Greeks and Romans.

It breaks my heart that people want to legislate their moral beliefs on everyone else is what is nearing the end of our great empire. You and I being able to have the "freedom" to choose what I want to participate in and don't want to participate in is what makes this country great. If you do not agree or believe in these activities then you have no obligation to participate in them nor by having anything of these actives being legal deprives you of your life, liberty, or property. But just because you don't believe in them or don't want to participate in them, doesn't mean that I should have your belief forced upon me. I should be able to choose for myself if I want to participate in these actives.
