Janie Merle Glass Smith was born in Ty Ty on March 6, 1942 and died in Snellville on March 24, 2012. She was the daughter of Pennie Jackson Glass and Nettie Mae Forester. Janie was a longtime resident of Snellville, GA. Janie was a retired Senior Underwriter from Wells Fargo Mortgage. As an underwriter, she routinely received recognition and awards for employee of the month and customer satisfaction. Prior to working in the mortgage industry, Janie owned and operated two women’s apparel specialty shops -Jane’s Boutique in Dublin and Chris & Jane Fashions in Lilburn. As a homemaker, she devoted her life in service to her family. She is remembered as a dedicated servant of Christ. Janie is survived by her two daughters, Peggy Smith of Snellville and DeAnn Blankenship of Dublin. Janie has three grandchildren: Jackson, Patricia and Lansing Cochran. Janie is also survived by two sisters and a brother, Mary Haufler of Gainesville, Florida, Anna Suggs of Tampa, Florida, and Charles Glass of Orlando, Florida. Janie is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Celebration Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Wages Snellville Chapel. Dr. K.C. Stevens from Trinity Baptist Church of Martinez will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association, the American Cancer Society or other charitable organization, in memory of Janie Merle Smith.
